It takes me a couple days to get each shirt totally done so I need about a week from when you place the order to get it into the mail. Please request your size/colour down below. Some of the shirts will have screen printed owls on them, some will not. Sizes are genderless and fit true to size, but I find them on the smaller end of shirts. soft 04:00
it's dark at four o'clock the city's sleeping in a fever dream my body's so tired, i'm getting used to being lonely whenever i look up there's always clouds above i lose focus i need some light, a crack, a splinter to get me through the winter i feel hopeless whenever life gets hard i just get soft a thousand steps every morning i cross the street to change my view the birds sing me a story they say it's always 20/20 in the rearview whenever i look up there's always clouds above i lose focus i need some light, a glint a glimmer to get me through the winter i'm not hopeless but whenever life gets hard i just get soft so soft, so soft.
swimming 03:11
i want to take you swimming sometime lay out our bodies on the rocks in the sun i want to know what it was like growing up and where you find joy in a world so fucked up and maybe i haven't been sleeping so well im getting lost in my day dream spending my time looking so deep inside, hoping that i can find something i want to go for a walk in the woods and spend a few hours on the trails i want to see colours changing above... do the trees ever worry that they're not enough? these days i know that i'm swirling, living inside my own head but you've got a smile that can crack me wide open leaving me looking for something...something looking for something.
vultures 03:56
these days you seem a little quiet these days you're turning down the news you say, 'it's so hard to find the joy now' but these days aren't about you... and you'd be a fool if you were praying for rain when you had a thousand buckets of water in your name, yet your neighbours house was burning (going up in flames) and you were on the porch, praying while the smoke was circling like a vulture keep on drinking your cool, cool water. you're not looking for change. cos you know the wind will keep blowing away, keeping your house safe from the flames. but the voices, they will keep rising! pay attention, open the door. cos the voices they will keep rising and you cannot ignore them anymore. you'd be a fool if you were praying for rain when you had a thousand buckets of water in your name, and your neighbours house was burning - going up in flames, yet you're out on the porch praying while the smoke is circling like a vulture.
isolation 03:17
when I sit here all day, finding myself barely awake getting tired of my thoughts feel it burning up inside - I wonder where I could go to get away from it all these days but I swore that I would not let it phase me and I said that I would not let it erase me... I'm just lonely these I bet you're lonely too Let's put our lonely minds together, ride out the lonely weather we will get through, like we always do.
fomo 02:38
electricity 03:39
well it might be the end of your body but only the start of your journey electricity you're in all of the clouds above me and all of the wind that surrounds me like a melody [oooh] when the trees lose their leaves in the winter when the sun warms my skin in the spring you'll be here with me, electricity listen to the whispers gentle tap on the shoulder you'll be guiding me ....electricity.... I hope you keep singing the Tennessee Waltz cos you'll always be dancing in my heart and it might be the end of your body but only the start of your journey electricity....

soft is a a pillowy dreamscape of songs marking the time the world stopped and told us to listen harder. Written over the last few months of 2020, 'soft' was recorded produced and mixed entirely by Burns herself, partially out of necessity (it's a pandemic, after all) and partially to hone her skills. The songs are spacious, dappled with field recordings from across the year, and imperfect. Times are rough, stay soft.

released February 5, 2021

Written, recorded and mixed by Kat Burns (socan/bmi) at the Garden Shed in 2020/2021 except 'fomo' which was cowritten by Iva Delić. Additional vocals on 'soft' by Lisa Bozikovic, Katie DuTemple, Annelise Noronha and Chantale Renee. Violin samples on 'vultures' and 'fomo' performed and recorded by Anthony Wallace. Piano, percussion and additional vocals on 'fomo' performed and recorded by Iva Delić.

swimming, electricity and vultures were mastered by Heather Kirby at Dreamlands Studio.

Thank you to my patrons for supporting my creatively through a really tough year: Mac, frostpfot, Jason O, Jarret R, Kris B, Greg W, Mar, Myles, Kieron C, Jan. Additional thanks to Lisa Conway, Katie DuTemple, Iva Delić, and Alex Ricci for your input on the mixes. Thank you Heather Kirby for doing a wonderful job on the masters.

Cover art by Kat Burns as well (it's 2020 guys, it's lonesome)
